The town of Jamaa was as busy as it always was. Cosmo made his way around the scammers, fake fmans, adoption beggars, and of course, mate beggars.
"IS VEREH RARE MERMAID PUPPY CAT WOLF FOX RABBIT THING PLES ADOPT MEH!"
"IF U LAHK ME, MAH DEN!!!"
"ROAR I AM MAN"
He blocked all of these common words out of his hearing, and focused on going home. "Hey look, it's the Alpha nobody likes!" Cosmo stopped dead in his tracks, and stared at the jammer who yelled. Whispering began spreading like wildfire among the cluster of jammers.
"He looks old!"
"He looks like a hobo,"
"What's with that weird hat?"
"Maybe he's evil,"
However, what really ticked Cosmo off was when a jammer said loudly enough for him to hear, "Who would be that crazy to actually like him?! I mean, he's like the most useless Alpha ever."
Cosmo snapped, "EXCUSE ME?! I'VE BEEN HELPING ALL OF YOU, AND THIS IS WHAT I GET?! INSTEAD OF BEING RESPECTED LIKE THE OTHER ALPHAS, I JUST GET INSULTED?!"
The crowd grew silent. "I MADE CHOMPER PLANTS AND BOOMSEEDS, WITHOUT THEM, YOU WOULD BE USELESS AGAINST THE PHANTOMS!"
Cosmo stomped his staff on the floor and teleported home. He went upstairs and sat on his hammock, crying. As he did, a small knock on the door was heard. "Cosmo? Are you in there?"
The koala replied, "Nobody's home, so leave!" The voice replied, "Please open the door, I just want to talk to you," Cosmo hesitated to open the door first, but opened the door to reveal a female raccoon. "What do you want?"
"I-I saw your outrage in Jamaa Township today, so I came here to see if you're alright," The raccoon replied. Wait, someone actually cares for me? The koala alpha thought. "Please, come in." He said, motioning for her to come inside. "Do you maybe wanna talk about it?" The raccoon asked. Cosmo nodded slowly. "It's because, I've been helping jammers go through and complete adventures by making chomper plants, boomseeds, and assigning tasks. And what do I get? Jammers making fun of me! Almost everyone hates me!" He explained, sniffling. "I don't hate you," The raccoon said softly.
"Of course! Why else would I come all the way here to visit you? You've been a big inspiration to me, Cosmo, in fact, you're my hero!" Cosmo's face flushed. "T-thank you," He replied. "I-I never knew someone looked up to me that way."
"No, thank you. You've left a big impact on us all. Even though most jammers don't realize it, I do. Sometimes, you just need someone by your side." She said warmly. "As one of the most unpopular animals in Jamaa, it's hard not to get insulted, teased, bullied, or get stared at. Eventually, I found a shoulder to lean on, which in this case, was my brother. When I saw you at Jamaa Township, I knew what you were going through. So I came, and became your shoulder to lean on." The raccoon placed a paw on Cosmo's and said, "I must be going, I promise I'll visit you again."
Cosmo didn't say anything, instead, he enveloped his arms around her and burst out crying. "T-Thank you so much for being a friend. The other Alphas d-don't even talk to me that much. Sometimes, I-I try to make a conversation with them, but they would just ignore me like they usually did! It's rare for them to actually talk to me unlike what you saw in the Adventures!"
The raccoon started to tear up as she said, "As I once said before, you're my hero, Cosmo." Cosmo replied, "And so are you." The two broke from the hug as the raccoon made her way outside. "But wait," The raccoon stopped and turned around. "I never did get your name, what is it?" The raccoon replied, "The name's Twister." And so she journeyed on until she was just a dot on the horizon.
Thank you Twister, for being a true friend. Cosmo thought as he smiled.
"One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and be understood."
